New Arrivals from La Petite Baigneuse
We are very excited to announce the arrival of a new shipment of wines from Philippe Wies, AKA La Petite Baigneuse. We have been very lucky to receive limited quantities of each cuvée produced on the domaine, spanning multiple vintages, varieties and styles.
Sitting next to the Pyrenees mountains in the Maury appellation of Roussillon, Philippe Wies has 13 hectares of vines surrounded by scrubland and protected by a range of cliffs. The vineyard benefits from the Tramontana (northern wind) and maritime winds from the east.
He plants local varieties such as Lledoner Pelut and Grenache on black schist soil, rich in minerals brought to the surface from the surrounding mountains. These soils impart a specific taste and personality to his wines. Philippe regards all natural life and vegetation in his vineyard as vital to maintaining a healthy eco system, which is essential to producing top quality grapes. Using organic and biodynamic practices the grapes are picked by hand, fermented using natural yeasts and aged in large old french foudre. A cement winery has been built in the middle of the vineyard, so the grapes remain at optimum freshness and are kept in perfect condition before being vinified.
Philippe has been with us since the very beginning, importing his very first vintage as our very first winemaker under the name Ancestrel. We feel very privileged to be able to call him family and to be able to offer his wonderful, honest and pure terroir driven wines here in the UK.
6 of his wines are available as a mixed case for 15% off for one week only.
