The wonderful white’s of Podere Orto
After much anticipation, we are delighted to have received an allocation of Podere Orto’s rarely seen white cuvées, which for the first time comes as a trio of poised, pure, and energetic wines.
It has been two years since their last white was on shelves in the UK, in the form of their 2016 Ambrato, a blend of the three wines, which has been separated for the 2019 vintage. Quantities are limited, as would be expected from a winemaker who works with a garden of vines, with only 1.25 Hectares of white varietals.
When hearing the story of how they ended up here, it seems as if it was fate. Simona explains that this place chose them. Having everything they thought they could have ever wanted and needed in Rome, they knew something wasn’t right and went in search of a different kind of life. The passion present at Podere Orto is evidence that they made the right decision.
The wines here are produced spontaneously, in reaction to the seasons, adapting year on year. The unique climate and high altitude mean warm days and cold nights creating wines with great finesse and acidity.
Giuliano planted the vines himself with the utmost attention to the direction of each variety in relation to the sun. His north-facing whites are incredibly fresh, and his west-facing reds are deeply thoughtful. Amai blends the two for a light yet complex Rosato. Giuliano & Simona have made history in creating Podere Orto and we are lucky enough to experience a little part of it every time we drink a bottle.
We have their full offering, spanning multiple vintages, White, Amber, Red, and Rosato available online for a limited time only.
